The Bambara people are from the largest ethnic group in Mali and occupy the central part of the country, in an area of savannah. The stylistic variations in Bambara art are extreme, displaying either stylized or realistic animal or human features. The style is distinct and recognizable by its typical flat faces, arrow-shaped noses all-over body triangular scarification and, on the figures, splayed hands. This box is highly decortive and althugh not very old, it is a beautiful piece.
